Please note: This is a brief overview of the policies in the Expressions Dance Handbook. You will be given a copy of the handbook at your first week of class.
We take our roles as a mentors and teachers in your child’s life very seriously. It is our objective to inspire a passion for the art of dance in every child who passes through our doors. In the process, we strive to set the right example and help your child (and you) create memories that will last a lifetime.
EXPRESSIONS DANCE PHILOSOPHY: Our primary objective is to build self-esteem while creating talented dancers. Our program gives students the opportunity to express themselves and grow in a positive, challenging, and fun environment while participating in the art of dance. Our goal is to encourage the development of important life skills- teamwork, dedication, responsibility, leadership, values, respect, and strong self-image.
We are committed to providing high-quality dance classes to enhance the overall development of your child. We provide a safe and child-centered environment to encourage our students to explore dance with qualified, nurturing teachers.
We believe that dance training encourages young people to develop a positive self-image as they increase awareness of their physical being. Along with improving coordination skills and developing muscular awareness, dance classes give children the freedom to express themselves through movement.
For the Parents
We believe that children’s success depends on the support of their parents or guardians. Because your commitment to the process makes an enormous difference, we encourage you to be a part of your child’s dance education.
Our programs rely on a positive atmosphere and educational experience for our faculty and students and their parents. Cooperation between all parents is expected. Showing respect—for other parents, the students, and the faculty—makes an important impression on the children. You are a role model for your child about how to interact with others in a professional setting
POLICIES AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION
During the last week of each month parents may observe classes. This is the chance for you to see firsthand what the classroom experience is like for your child. Please do not bring infants or other children to the in-class observation week.
Never disrupt class. During the in-class observation week (or at any time if the door to the classroom is open), please refrain from shouting instructions or distracting your child in any way.
Monthly Newsletters and important updates are emailed to all addresses on file. The same newsletters and updates are emailed to you and posted on the website and Facebook page. We work hard to make the dance experience organized and fun. Keeping you informed is one of our primary goals. Please read all newsletters and other school information.
Arrival and Departure
We encourage students to arrive 10 minutes before class starts.
For their safety, children should be picked up immediately after class. We charge a $5 fee for every 5 min after class had ended when you are late picking up your child. PLEASE BE PUNCTUAL. We all have other commitments we are late for when you are late.
Preschool students who miss a class will have the opportunity to make it up with another similar class. Please check with the office to determine the best makeup class for your child. This class MUST be made up with in the one month of the class missed.
Parking Lot Safety
The school is home to children of all ages. Please enter and exit our parking lot with extreme caution. Never park your vehicle in any area that is not a designated parking space. Please do not allow siblings to play in the parking lot. If our parking spaces are all taken please park along 3200 South. The Trader Building parking lot is off limits to studio parking.
DRESS CODE REQUIREMENTS
Expressions Dance maintains a dress code to encourage concentration and a sense of inclusiveness (variations in attire can be distracting and contribute to feelings of inequality). Uniformity in dancewear allows the teachers to assess how well the students are implementing the technique being taught, problems with alignment, and other important aspects of dance training.

ANNUAL PERFORMANCE INFORMATION
Performances are an exciting part of our program! All our dancers will have opportunities to perform at Halloween, and our Spring Concert in June. This is your chance to show off all your hard work for the year!
Costumes fees will not exceed $30 and many will be rented to you for $10-$15. Some classes will be assigned to create or wear their own Halloween Costume. Costume fees are due October 5th and will be charged with tuition.
All performers will pay a $10 performance fee, due October 5th.
Concert offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them to present to their families and friends the results of a year’s hard work, dedication, and progress. A big part of dance training includes learning through performance.
For Spring Concert we have done the work to offer you the best deal we can get. By providing larger guarantied quantities to our suppliers we are able to get better prices for everyone. We have a created a package that takes care of everything for you! Included in this bundle is your costume, 5 complementary tickets, performance DVD, class picture, concert finale t-shirt and shorts, tights, accessories, concert gift, snacks and drinks at dress rehearsal, plus class chaperones and dressing room security for your piece of mind. We have NOT included shoes but we do offer you the convenient option to purchase them at the studio.
The last week in September and the last week in January is “Bring-a-Friend Week.” Students may bring a friend (similar in age) to the school to experience a fun class designed for them and their guests. Students’ friends attend class free of charge during this week.
Summer Program and Camps
Each summer Expressions Dance offers summer programs and camps for both current and new students. Summer activities are for children ages 3 to 18. A complete brochure of all summer programs will be distributed in January. We suggest early registration as these programs do sell out, especially the camps.
The studio is available for rental for meetings, rehearsals, and other activities. Tables, chairs, sound systems, and microphones are available. Whether you’re planning a one-time, weekly, or monthly event, give us a call to determine whether we can accommodate your group or activity.
We offer several birthday party options for both boys and girls. Parties are themed and can be dance related or not. Most birthday parties are scheduled for Friday or Saturday afternoons or on Sundays; however, limited space is available during the week. Please contact the office for a complete brochure or visit our website for details.
WELCOME TO Expressions Dance! We look forward to an exciting, rewarding season with you!
